Manila, Philippines

Friday 4 December – Friday 11 December 2015

Jet lagged & wide awake at 3am in the morning, I couldn’t stop thinking about how long I’ve been saying to myself – I must start a blog! I’ve wanted to write a blog for as long as I can remember and I kept blaming it on the fact that I don’t have time but let’s face it, we all have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyoncé so lets just find a way! It’s been such an crazy & unforgettable year and for me, this is the best way to capture it.

I travelled to the Philippines with two colleagues earlier this month for our last work event of the year & what a journey it was. Flying from LHR to HKG which was fine but once we reached Manila & met our hotel representative, she casually said your drivers stuck in traffic but will be here soon.. Ok, that’s fine & we just waited….and waited…and waited.

If you think the traffic in London is bad, try driving in the Philippines. We waited almost an hour for the driver to reach 1km. We thought maybe he got lost. We then decided to take our luggage & walk through the torrential rain and pile up of cars to go find him. We finally reached our car but what we didn’t know, was that we’d be stuck in it, not moving for almost 5 hours! Let’s remember our hotel was 15 minutes from the airport…oh but this was the norm for them. Everyone was so calm, people chilling on their car bonnets, chatting to the neighbour in the car next to them. After 5 hours of getting to know my colleagues inside out, we were getting hangry and tired.

The Philippines has been voted the worst place on earth for traffic.
We spent 6 nights in the New World Makati Hotel which was lovely very oriented and modern! The food was great so I was easily pleased. My sleeping pattern was all over the place but I was with two of my favourite colleagues which always means the trip is going to be one to remember…

I didn’t see much of the Philippines which was a shame but sometimes you just fly in and out of these cities for work & miss what it’s really all about! There wasn’t a great deal of restaurants & sights we could go to in Makati so we had to make the most of what was near us at the hotel! We dined at the People’s Palace one evening & the food was amazing, my love for Thai grew even stronger. Ohhh and the cosmo’s just kept coming. Topic of discussion that evening – are you a Carrie, Samantha or Charlotte?!

For our team Christmas dinner, we dined at a restaurant called The Black Bird. It’s Aviation-themed (which my boyfriend would have loved). It is located at the Neilson Tower of the old Manila International Airport and is named after the fastest aircraft in the world. It’s inspired by an Airport Terminal and its Art Deco building in the heart of Makati City.

It took me a while to get hold of this dress but I finally did and in the sale too – bonus! It was extremely humid in Manila but considering almost everywhere we went had air con & I always feel the cold, I thought this dress would be perfect.

Dress ZARA
Wedges Carvela
Nude waist belt Matalan

I hear the islands in the Philippines are beautiful but I decided to whisk myself off to Singapore to spend time with my best friend who now lives in SG!
